I’ve seen a lot of paintings/drawings of old Chinese army tents that look like these big dome-shaped things, so that’s how I drew them. But more than anything they remind me of big pork buns
you know… today, as i munch on a roast pork bun (steamed and not baked!) during the lab holiday dim sum, all i will think of is the taste of sweaty chinese soldiers from the period of the Three Kingdoms… oi… 8(
salty and gritty…
but, all that aside, really liked your drawing of the expansive chinese army camp!
Mmm, pork buns. You even hyperlinked to my favorite kind.
One time I went out for dim sum (ordered and served, not carted) and the owner cut me off after three orders of them. They made me eat my vegetables before I could have any more!
@vonbek: Our official position is that we do not condone cannibalism.
Or drug abuse. Or Justin Bieber. But if someone were to turn Mr. Bieber into dim sum…
@Not Yet Measured: That is one health-conscious owner. Can’t say I’ve met too many of those. Btw, ordered and served dim sum is the way to go. So much better than stuff from those carts that always seem to circle around the room for 30 min before they get to your table. Ugh.
Justin Bieber dim sum… intriguing idea… i mean… “long pig” has been a staple of tribal diets for a long time… and it would be about the only way Mr. Bieber can contribute positively to society… (ahhh… to be so young, so full of oneself and so universally bashed upon… poor — but potentially nourishing — canuck)
and Not Yet Measured is now my hero… three orders of steamed pork buns FTW! Yeah… them steamed pork buns and the spare ribs and the tripe were the staples of my dim sum diet when i used to frequent the China Pearl in the “Combat Zone” (before all the seedy buildings were turned into parking lots)… oi… so hungry again… thank god i have spam fried rice omelette to look forward to in my near future
You should not draw on an empty stomach!

@Mercy: Can’t help it… stomach acid is my muse…

Ah, China Pearl! I’ve been there many times but I was never brave enough to try the chicken feet.
Alas my favorite dim sum is gone forever after the closing of Furama in the Bay Area.
